I know Garbage songs don't really have solos..."extended fills" is more like it but you know what I mean. I'm wondering how does Duke get that smooth, electronic-y sounding guitar tone that has a sort of zoom to it? That's the best way I can put it. I'll edit this post with a specific example once I get back home and check but, seriously, he was using it constantly on the 2005 tour.
axisallareas.com says he uses equipment like the Line 6 Pod Pro, T.C. Electronic G-FORCE, E-MU Proteus, etc. (of which I only know what the Pod Pro does). I figure he's using some patch on the Pod Pro but I wonder which one and what its "qualities" are.
I'm just trying to figure out how to get that sound specifically for playing Garbage songs, not to mention curiosity.

The guitar sound is a finely tuned work of art. The sound the guys have is not something "off the shelf". Its not like you could get a pod pro and put it on patch 6 and have their sound. Steve for example with the pod pros runs them at the same time. Each one has the exact same paramaters but one may have distortion and the other not. This give the sound a fuller richer sound.
On there gear they may use the pod pro for distortion and the T.C Electric for gate control. The other TC could be doing delay or echo effects. As for what the settings are for there sound it would probrably take a year to explain out. I personally dont know them. They are cool enough that they would probrably tell you.
What they do is they have all the settings in a laptop so they just download them in and whola done. I hope that explains it.
As for what the exact settings are that is something I have no idea of. I doubt anyone on here knows that info.

Ah, that's good enough. Thanks Chris. The dual PodPro's is an interesting idea. I should have known, considering their studio geek reputation, that their setup wouldn't be cut-and-dry.

I'm curious as to what that device is that he holds in his hand during YLSF and Happy Home that stimulates the strings without actually making contact. Something magnetic I'm guessing...?
edit: Never mind. It's an e-bow. Awesome.

Just thought I'd add to this since it's sat here at the top for literally months. I believe Duke is using some subtle octave effect on his tone for riffs and fills ...which is a large part of that "sound" I was talking about.
